Congratulations to Skyler, Parkside's Student of the Month!

WHS students in Ms. Kniffen's classes recently assisted WHS Head Custodian, Mr. Steffens, with assembling new furniture items for the high school.

Redgranite 2nd and 3rd graders explored turkeys, gravity, and friction when they built turkey models called Gobble Waddlers. A Gobble Waddler is a turkey model that dances.
Gravity pulls the turkey and straw downward, but the weight of the turkey pulling on one side of the straw makes the straw tilt so that one end hits the string.
Friction between the straw and the string stops the turkey from dropping, but only for a moment. When the straw pushes on the string, the string pushes back, making the turkey bounce up. That straightens the straw, so it can fall a bit before the pull of the turkey tilts the straw again, and the cycle repeats.
In this activity students also observed turkey feathers, wattles, and snoods. They used cause and effect to experiment and change how their turkey danced. They had a blast creating these dancing turkeys!

Harley and Megan were recently named Parkside School's Literacy Students of the Month! Congratulations!

Redgranite Elementary 5th graders and Kindergartners buddied up again and did a little craft last week. While buddied the kids made a turkey that represented some of their favorite things!

On Tuesday, November 23, before going home for break and eating way too much turkey, Redgranite Elementary students and their families participated in our school's Turkey Trot. We had great weather and an even better turn out!
Thank you families for supporting our school.

Redgranite Student Council members are kicking off the "Redgranite Saves the Planet" initiative. This initiative was inspired by last year's 5th grade class. Students realized that much of the waste filling the landfills didn't have to end up there. These items could be recycled. So, they began collecting used school supplies such as markers, highlighters, pens, pencils, crayons, and glue-sticks to ensure that they did not end up in the landfill. The children ended up keeping 665 items out of the landfill. This year's student council members are setting a goal of recycling more than 665 items. Starting today all students and staff at Redgranite Elementary School may start recycling school supplies by putting them in the designated boxes in the school. Let's help Redgranite save the planet!

Congratulations Riverview Literacy Students of the Month!!

The first grade team is excited to nominate William for November student of the month.
William is an outstanding example of the Riverview Way, is a great friend to everyone, and is a joy to be around. In November we focus on respect. William shows respect to everyone every day. Some of the ways he shows respect include: listening to others when they are talking, following directions the 1st times, and following the Riverview Way in the halls, lunchroom, classroom, and playground.
William not only shows respect daily, but he also shows responsibility by taking care of himself and always being prepared, empathy by being aware of others feelings, and leadership in the classroom when working in stations.
William is an all around great student and is very worthy of November student of the month.
