During the month of December, Redgranite Elementary School was celebrating the character trait empathy. We define empathy as being able to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. This student has the ability to value, respect, and understand another person's views. This is not an easy skill to learn, but this student is wiser than her years and consistently demonstrates empathy in the classroom environment. This student can identify when a classmate is in need of help and simply needs a friend and she is there in the blink of an eye. She doesn’t ask questions, she listens. She doesn’t only help one person, she helps everyone. She not only shows empathy towards her classmates but she shows the adults at our school empathy. The 2020 school year has been tumultuous but she has definitely been a shining star and made the year easier for everyone in the third grade classroom. It is with honor that I nominate Maylee Goddard as Redgranite’s Student of the Month.
Wautoma students selected for SCC Literary Magazine
Each year, the South Central Conference publishes the conference literary magazine Musings. Teachers representing each school meet to review student submissions and then vote to select the best work from each school's entries. The magazine is then published in the spring. However, due to Covid, the publication of last year's magazine was delayed. 2021 Spring Welding Classes at FVTC in Wautoma.
The WHS Music, Art, Spanish, and Physical Education Departments would like to nominate Dylan Lederhaus for student of the month. Dylan is an enthusiastic student who challenges himself and has an energy that is contagious to everyone around him. Here are what some of the staff have to say about Dylan:
In Physical Education, Dylan arrives to class with a spirit and energy that is contagious. He works very hard and treats all of his classmates with kindness and respect. He is a great leader. Students look up to him and imitate his example. He is honest and humble regardless of whether or not his team is winning or losing. It is a pleasure to have him in class!
Dylan is currently the drumline captain of the high school band. Despite a very different start to the year Dylan has been consistently enthusiastic and encouraging to his fellow bandmates. He also serves as a TA for the concert band. Throughout the fall he was always willing to jump in to lead a warm-up or rehearse a piece with his peers. Dylan even wrote a piece of music for the bucket band to play at homecoming. In addition to concert band, Dylan is also a leader in our jazz ensemble and currently doing very well with our ukulele unit. Dylan regularly challenges himself to learn new things. This was evident from his first semester at WHS where he joined jazz band on drum kit. He has played in both jazz and symphonic band every semester since and in the pit of all of our musicals. The other band students love the energy that Dylan brings to class each day. He is especially well-suited to his future career goals in music education.
Dylan has enrolled in his first year of Concert Choir and has been a consistently positive member of the ensemble and has brought a level of energy and enthusiasm that is needed given the odd circumstance of the year. He is also in AP Theory and has been doing a great job working on his skills as a musician despite technology frequently giving us challenges at every turn. He has remained positive throughout the troubleshooting process and continues to challenge himself daily.
Dylan’s musical skills pump the fans up at athletic events. Drum solos rule!
We appreciate all the wonderful traits that Dylan brings to our school community and feel he is well deserving of the honor of student of the month.

Congratulations to 2nd grade student, Brooklyn; Brooklyn was Riverview's November Student of the Month. Nominated by 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Wagner stated, "Brooklyn is a student who shines in the classroom. Everyday she comes in with a positive attitude, ready to tackle any tasks ahead of her. She always gives 100% when it comes to her learning. When asked to do an assignment, she always goes above and beyond what is expected of her. She writes stories like no tomorrow and always wants a challenge when it comes to learning new math concepts. I never have to worry about whether or not she gets her at home learning done because she always does, and does so with a smile on her face. She is also a great classmate. When others need help or are getting frustrated, Brooklyn is the first one there to offer a helping hand. Brooklyn is a perfect role model for showing others what it means to be responsible as a student and as a classmate. She strives to do the right thing, even when no one is looking." For those reasons and many more, Brooklyn was selected as Riverview's Student of the Month.
On Friday, December 18 the Redgranite 5th graders graduated from the DARE Program. They did a fantastic job over the course of the last 12 weeks completing all of the lessons and then completing a final DARE Project to show what they learned.

Students at Redgranite Elementary had a splendiferous time participating in a Book War between 3 teams. Divide and conquer was the strategy as each team read 6 books by well-known children's author Roald Dahl.

Third grade students at Redgranite Elementary School have been learning about the character trait empathy during the month of December. This week the students wrote letters to hospitalized children. The students used their knowledge of the four types of sentences to compose a letter that will help put a smile on the hospitalized children's faces.

Oshkosh COVID Regional Testing Site - NEW HOURS
Congratulations to Wautoma High School and Mrs. McCarthy-Cardoso for receiving the Peer-to-Peer Suicide Prevention Grant Award for $1,000.00. Mrs. McCarthy-Cardoso wrote for and received this grant which will cover the training costs for our Sources of Strength Program that is new to our high school this year. Sources of Strength is a program that provides the highest quality evidence-based prevention for suicide, violence, bullying and substance abuse by training, supporting, and empowering both peer leaders and caring adults to impact their world through the power of connection, hope, help and strength. Congratulations to Wautoma High School on receiving this grant that will have a positive impact on our students' lives!
Redgranite Elementary 2nd Graders used chalk pastels to make Christmas lights during Miss Rich's Art Class this week.
In November, the Redgranite A+ After School students started a pen pal program to keep connected with their peers in the opposite cohort group during the hybrid schedule.
