The Heisman® High School Scholarship is presented by Acceptance Insurance®. The program was created in 1994 through a partnership between Wendy’s® and The Heisman Trophy Trust. From its inception, the program has leveraged the reputation of the Heisman Memorial Trophy as a symbol of great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. The Heisman High School Scholarship program extends the Heisman prestige to the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors by celebrating and rewarding outstanding male and female scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories happen not only on the field, but also in their schools and communities. The Heisman Trophy Trust was proud to partner with Acceptance Insurance® in 2020 to present these prestigious scholarships. Over the past 27 years, the program has honored more than 600,000 of the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors and provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholarships to students and more than a million dollars to high school academic and athletic programs across the country. The Heisman High School Scholarship program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes. By inviting male and female students from schools across the country to share their stories of leadership and impact, the program aims to inspire all students to harness their potential, push their limits, and use their talents not only to advance their own futures, but to improve the communities and world around them. This year we were honored that 2 of our Wautoma students were chosen as the high school winners. These students are: Gabe Ascher and Hayley Moore.

Redgranite third graders recently participated in Oceanspray's "Cranberries in the Classroom." Students learned a lot of information about cranberries, their ecosystem and the cranberry harvest. They learned that only five states in the USA produce cranberries and of the five Wisconsin is the top producer. At the end of the unit, students participated in a cranberry tasting. Students were also scientists as they participated in an experiment called "Dancing Cranberries." They also put their engineering skills to work as they created a catapult to launch cranberries. We LOVE cranberries!

On Monday, November 15th, students from Mr. Lenz's WHS FVTC Dual Credit College Tech Math class attended a field trip to Heartland Farms. Students were introduced to the farm's history and were exposed to the technical components that allow the farm to run a successful operation. The emphasis of the tour was to connect students to the real-world application of the content and skills that are taught in their current classes to the behind-the-scenes operations of Heartland Farms. A big thank you to Heartland Farms and FVTC for this great experience.

Hayley Moore, a senior at Wautoma High School, was one of 1,617 selected from over 68,000 applicants nationwide for the 2022 Coca-Cola Scholars Program. As a semifinalist she will now move onto a rigorous Phase 2 of the application process. Applicants were judged on their academic excellence, leadership and service demonstrated in school and community activities. This selection places Hayley in an elite group of seniors from around the country and we are proud to have her as a community member and student at Wautoma High School. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program recognizes students who take pride in making a significant impact on their schools and communities. They also know how to lead and serve. Hayley Moore is clearly that type. “We believe that identifying these young leaders throughout the country and encouraging their passion for serving others not only empowers the students, but also lifts up those around them.” said Jane Hale Hopkins, President of the Foundation. “The Coca-Cola system is dedicated to giving back to the communities they serve, and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is proud to be a part of that commitment.” Ultimately, 150 Coca-Cola Scholars will be selected to receive this prestigious $20,000 scholarship.

Fynlie Korman, Grade 3, Mrs. Julie Petersen, Teacher This student is a shining star at Redgranite Elementary School. This student demonstrates responsibility each and every day in many ways. For example, she is ultimately responsible for learning new things and she always puts forth 110% effort to do so. She is responsible for being a leader in our classroom and I can always count on her to lead by example. She is respectful to adults and children in the school. She always speaks in a kind tone and uses her manners. She can be counted on to follow school rules in and out of the classroom. When I think of being responsible, I think of her. As I nominate this student for the character trait responsibility, I would like to point out that she could also be nominated for the following character trait awards: Respect, Integrity, Empathy, Determination, Leadership and Cooperation. It is with great pleasure that I nominate Fynlie Korman as Redgranite’s Student of the Month.

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that the WHS CTE department nominates Abbi Zindars for the October Student of the Month. Abbi has started the year off on a very strong note! Not only has she excelled in her academics she also has gone above and beyond in extracurriculars. She has stepped up and volunteered for junior class activities when help was needed most. She has also taken on the role of president of FCCLA this year. FCCLA is a new student organization and without hesitation and with little knowledge of the club, she has stepped up to lead the group this year. She has a positive attitude and always strives to do her best. When times get tough, she powers through and does not complain. Even as the course rigor increases, her accelerated pace continues. Abbi has continued to be polite, respectful, and considerate in all of her interactions. It is with great enthusiasm and respect that we nominate Abbi Zindars for Student of the Month.
