Parkside Sixth Grade Language Arts Students are learning a new way to have a discussion. It is called a spider web discussion. While reading the novel Alone, students were given guiding opinion questions regarding the motivations of the main character. During the spider web discussion, the students discussed their opinions adding to what others said, asking deeper questions and using text evidence to back up their opinions during the discussion. They did a great job!

After our 14th annual Pajama Drive, we would like to send a heart-felt thank you to everyone for their generous donations! Thank you for opening your hearts this holiday season. Your kindness and generosity helped us surpass last year's total. This year we collected $1,023.00 in monetary donations. When all donations were counted and the money was spent to purchase new pajamas, we collected a grand total of 275 sets! We also received a donation of handmade blankets. Yesterday, third grade students at Redgranite Elementary helped count, sort, and box pajamas. The Holiday Project is excited to receive the cozy pajamas and blankets. We are so happy to be helping so many families this holiday season! Thank you for helping us make a difference in our community.

Riverview Elementary 4K-3rd Grade students, along with their Art Teacher Mrs. Miller, created paper murals for last weekend's Wautoma Area Chamber of Commerce's Breakfast with Santa at the WWII Memorial Building. Much encouragement and guidance was also provided by numerous Riverview staff members in the creation of these pieces. They are now currently hanging in the hall outside of Riverview's office.

The WASD nutrition program has been utilizing LFS grant funds. This DPI grant has allowed us to put more local, fresh produce on the menu each and every day. Today, students were able to get roasted fresh locally grown vegetables in addition to the menu items that were served today. Tomorrow, they will be offered sautéed fresh white mushrooms to top their beef bites! #WISchoolMealsRock #F2S

The Riverview Character Education Committee presents November’s Community Character Award to the Wautoma SuperStingers Youth Wrestling Program for Empathy! Empathy in wrestling is very important. Coaches use empathy when they are talking with an athlete during practice, before matches, and after their matches. It is important for coaches to remember that the wrestlers have feelings, too. Athletes spend a lot of time trying to get better and work very hard at this sport so, sometimes emotions can feel very strong. At times, it is easy to get upset if the match doesn’t go the way the wrestler or coach wants it to go. This is why empathy is so important. Wrestling coaches and wrestlers show empathy for both athletes on the mat, understanding that the athlete who won will feel proud and the athlete who didn’t win may feel discouraged. It’s okay to feel what you feel, but it is also important to understand how the other athletes and coaches feel, too. Thank you Wautoma Youth Wrestling Super Stinger Coaches for showing empathy on and off the mat.
