Riverview Elementary Art Teacher Cindy Miller and Redgranite Elementary Art Teacher Michelle Kuehl both did schoolwide art projects using street artist ThankYouX's mural ideas as inspiration. All of Riverview's K-3 students created a cube during art class; 4K students and staff members were also invited to participate. All of Michelle's art students and Redgranite staff created a piece for their collaboration. Everyone was allowed to add to their cubes drawings that were meaningful or designs that focused on color, line, shape, and pattern.

Last week at WHS in Ms. Morris' Food for Life class, they covered all things potatoes! Thanks to the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association, they were able to purchase over 50 lbs of potatoes to use in the classroom. The potatoes were purchased from Decker Family Farm. Farmer Dave even threw in some other produce to use in the classroom as a donation! Sarah Agena, from the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association, chose our school to visit and we were so lucky! She did a short lesson on potatoes then helped students complete their gnocchi lab. Students prepared homemade gnocchi (potato dumplings) with a pumpkin sage sauce and homemade pesto. The basil was sourced from the aquaponics lab right here at WHS. Later in the week, students also dressed up baked potatoes to be a filling and nutritious meal! We are grateful for the community connections we share with agricultural organizations. These food labs wouldn't be possible without them!

Students in Ms. Lyons' Kindergarten Class have been traveling around the world to learn about holidays and traditions throughout the world. Last week they went to Mexico, Germany, Italy, and Sweden. While "visiting" Sweden, the kindergarteners learned that Christmas and St. Lucia Day are celebrated, and made starboys hats and St. Lucia crowns. The students are excited to continue their travels to India, Israel, Australia, back home to the United States, and out to Africa and the Middle East in the coming weeks.

Mrs. Shepard's 6th grade language arts classes are reading Walk Two Moons. Students are reading the parts of dialogue as a play with Mrs. Shepard or Mrs. Coussons being the narrator. Students chose the parts to read based on who was present in the chapter. They read the parts as they envisioned the character, with inflection and intonation. This helps students to learn how to write dialogue correctly as well as how to read fluently with feeling, putting themselves in the story.
