Due to the continued arctic blast, drive thru food pantries in Wautoma and Coloma are canceled for Tuesday, February 16th and Wednesday, February 17th. This difficult decision is made to ensure the safety of our volunteers and patrons. At this time, drive thru pantries located in Plainfield and Wild Rose will be open as scheduled.
The Waushara County Food Pantry will also be open during their normal hours and can be contacted in the case of a food emergency by calling 787-0641.
Congratulations to Logan Johnson for joining the 1000 point club! Johnson achieved this accomplishment against Green Lake/Princeton on February 9th.
Mr. Vanisavveth is introducing 6th graders at Parkside to academic and career counseling readiness by having students recognize how building problem-solving skills now will help them in their future work life. Students will be also recognizing how their current interests may move them toward a career later in life.
Congratulations to the Wautoma High School FBLA Chapter in their 4th place finish at Regional Competition Virtually this year. All 27 students who participated finished in the top 8 of their event.

Four Wautoma High School juniors were recently inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica Avispones (Hornets) Chapter, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the induction ceremony for the students has been postponed. The new inductees include: Abby Peterman, Hoyt Keller, Gabe Ascher and Hayley Moore.
Chess Club is back at the Parkside A+ After School Program. The game of Chess helps youth work on problem solving skills, focus, strategic thinking and social skills. Thank you to Ms. Albrecht and Mrs. Stevens for providing this opportunity for A+ students!
Nomination from Mr. Woyak: I am nominating Josiah for student of the month. Josiah treats ALL people in a kind and caring way. He is quick to help others, whether it is with a question on schoolwork or playing a game at recess, Josiah volunteers to lend a hand. Josiah is everybody’s friend. Josiah leads others through his words and actions. Josiah was chosen to work with a kindergarten student that needs assistance with daily activities in class. I can count on Josiah to make positive choices. Josiah is very polite. He has great manners, and thanks me daily for the work I give him. Josiah is determined to be successful in everything he does. He always gives his absolute best effort, even when things are challenging. When he doesn’t understand something, Josiah keeps a positive attitude, concentrates and works hard to gain that knowledge. Josiah’s behavior is outstanding! He pays attention to whomever is speaking, shows great self-control, and follows directions closely. Josiah is a super role model, a fun person to work with, and deserving of student of the month!

The WHS Art, Music, Spanish, and Physical Education Departments would like to nominate Mallorie Vissers for student of the month.
Mallorie has been a member of the band all throughout high school. In addition to all the hard work and dedication she shows as an instrumentalist Mallorie has taken a leadership position in choreographing and instructing the colorguard routines since the spring of her Freshman year. She has been extremely organized and responsible with this task. This year while everything is very different in the instrumental music department Mallorie has been an exemplary student encouraging all of those around her with her genuinely positive outlook. It brought a ton of spirit to the band room when Mallorie suggested the idea for having a bucket decorating contest during homecoming week. She also contributes enthusiastically to our composition unit. While Mallorie has always been a conscientious student who gives her very best effort, this year has shown that even in changing and sometimes challenging circumstances Mallorie continues to bring her best every day.
In Physical Education, Mallorie has demonstrated phenomenal leadership skills. From the minute she arrives to class she begins to take on responsibilities of helping with set up, preparing herself for the lesson, kindly and cheerfully speaking to all of her classmates. She displays an energy that is positive and contagious. Mallorie enjoys being challenged and is determined to face and overcome each one of them. She has a healthy competitive spirit balanced by joy when successful, yet humble, sincerely congratulatory and great at praising the accomplishments of others. It has been such a pleasure and blessing to watch this young lady light up the world the way that she does.
Mallorie comes to AP Spanish class ready to learn. She is very positive and challenges herself daily in class. When given an assignment or project she goes above and beyond the requirements. When she doesn’t understand a concept without hesitation seeks extra help for a further explanation. She has grown so much during her years of taking spanish. The class taught Spanish I lessons and her game and lesson were thoroughly planned out, and the students enjoyed learning through the creative lesson. Mallorie would like to become a teacher. Her compassion, caring demeanor and willingness to help others will make her an excellent teacher.
Mallorie works as a Student Assistant in the Special Education classroom. She assists the students with their classwork, reads to them, and spends time with them. Mallorie is a very positive person who enjoys spending her time with the students and they very much enjoy their time with her. Her friendly and calm demeanor is also very appreciated by the staff in the Special Education classroom.
We look forward to watching Mallorie continue to grow. She strives for excellence. Mallorie, keep up the good work!

Wish them well! Last week WHS students Jazmin Ott, Madylyn Woyak, Ava Butt, and Owen Mulvey represented the Wautoma Hornets at the South Central Conference Forensics Meet. All students did well in their categories with scores in the 21/25 category. Scores in this range will be necessary for these students to continue to the State Level after their Level 1 meet on February 19. Owen Mulvey and Jazmin Ott also participated in the Oshkosh North Invitational last weekend. Jazmin Ott wrote and presented her own free verse poetry. Ava Butt responded to the question, “Should internet access be universal?” Owen Mulvey chose to write and present a speech on the reign of ‘The Sun King’, Louis, the XIV, of France.

The students enrolled in the Wautoma High School Translation and Interpretation Class have spent the past semester partnering with the Wautoma Public Library and other community organizations in order to translate documents from English to Spanish. The newest Spanish class offered at WHS allows students who have already completed AP Spanish as well as Native Speakers II to use their foreign language skills to assist the community. Not only has the group worked to translate documents, they also offer their translation skills to the school by creating a monthly display. Previously, the students created and translated items related to Suicide Awareness, while January they featured a display they call, “Goodbye 2020 – Hello 2021”.
