Owen Mulvey, Ava Butt, Madylyn Woyak, Alyssa Szymanski, and Kaydance Blader represented Wautoma High School at the State Forensics Meet this last week. Congratulations to Owen Mulvey who took a Gold Medal (First Place) in Moments in History with his well-written presentation on Louis XIV, “The Sun King” on which he received a perfect score, 25/25 points. Silver medals (Second Place) were earned by Ava Butt (Public Address), Madylyn Woyak(Poetry), and Alyssa Szymanski and Kaydance Blader (Group Interpretive Reading). Students receiving a Silver medal earned 23 to 24 point out of 25. The State competition capped a great season of competition by the Wautoma Forensics team. Special thanks to Assistant Coach, Mr. Jacob Mathias. If you are a Wautoma student grades 8 through 11 looking for a fun extracurricular activity which will build skills in speaking and language, please contact either Mr. Mathias or Ms. Towne. Our season builds slowly from the beginning of November through April and fits well with other extracurricular activities.

Redgranite Third Graders participated in a virtual field trip on Thursday. The students have been learning a lot about motion and they participated in a virtual class called Motion Commotion with Scientist K from North Carolina. The students enjoyed learning additional information about motion and doing experiments with the scientist. The children worked with tops, learned about centrifugal force, and made magnetic slime.

The 5th graders at Redgranite Elementary have been looking into different ways to separate mixtures. Last week they were given a mixture of four materials (gravel, powder, salt, and a mystery material) and tasked with separating all four of the materials. They were given a tub with everything they needed to separate the materials and that was it.  The kids needed to use the knowledge from previous investigations to write a plan for how they were going to accomplish their task and then test it. It took a few tries but both groups got all of the materials back into their own cups! It was awesome watching them problem solve along the way!
