Last Week the Redgranite Correctional Facility made two generous donations to the DARE Program and the Redgranite Elementary School. This kind contribution shows the institution's commitment to supporting community welfare and promoting positive youth development. The funds will be allocated to enhance educational resources for teachers and strengthen the DARE program, which plays a vital role in equipping students with the skills they need to make informed decisions about drug use and resistance strategies. Earlier this week, Redgranite Correctional Institution Corrections Program Supervisor Stacey Gravunder and Training Lieutenant Dallas Gehrke stopped by Civics and Government Class to speak to Wautoma High School students about their jobs as well as the day-to-day at the facility. During their presentation, Mrs. Gravunder shared information about the programs they offer at Redgranite Correctional Institution for the inmates while Lt. Gherke shared how correctional officers are trained and some of the items that guards have confiscated from inmates. Civics and Government is a new elective course at Wautoma High School offered by City of Wautoma School Resource Officer Lafe Hendrickson and Miss Weisensel.
Yesterday, Wautoma Area School District Administrator Jewel Mucklin spoke to Mr. Plaster’s Civics Classes about local government and why school districts have to ask voters through a referendum in order to raise the revenue limits . During her presentation, Ms. Mucklin explained how the different taxing entities from state to local government work while providing an overview of the school district's referendum question the Board of Education adopted for the November 2024 ballot.
The WASD Nutrition department is always finding ways to connect with the students with their likes and encourage students to try new foods by offering a fun and diverse menu! This week students had a chance to try an Indian inspired meal! Chicken Tikka Masala, Rice, Curried Potatoes, Garlic Naan Bread, & Red Pepper Hummus.

In order to write a good story, you need to understand what makes a good story. Parkside Sixth Grade Language Arts students are reading children's books and determining the elements within the story as well as plotting the events as they occur. This will help them to write a good story by understanding how each part is important and adds to the next.

Redgranite Third Graders have been learning about the history of Redgranite in Social Studies. Yesterday, we took a walking tour of our community. The first stop was the quarry. Back in the day, it was a booming business that brought lots of people to our community. We also learned that there are several streets in Redgranite that are named after the men who owned the quarry company. In addition, we found a trail where the old train tracks used to be and tons of granite was hauled out of town on trains daily. We also visited the post office and the public park. We talked about the goods and services businesses in our community can offer us. It was a great way to get to know our community.
