The Wautoma Area School Board unanimously approved a resolution to place a $41.3 million capital referendum on the April 2023 ballot to fund the construction of a new elementary school during their monthly meeting at Riverview Elementary School on Dec. 12.

Based on the Community Survey results presented by School Perceptions in November, respondents supported the building of a new elementary school in order to address security, safety, and accessibility; major building systems; classroom and support spaces; the purchasing of land, the removal and reallocation of the school’s current land; as well as the building and furnishing of the new school.

Over the course of the past six years, the mill rate for residents living in the Wautoma Area School District has continued to decline, with the most recent year being at $4.96 per $100,000. If the referendum passes the estimated local property tax mill rate will still be lower than 2018-19 when it was at $8.57 per $100,000.
