On June 5, 2025, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction named Riverview Elementary and Parkside School a 2023-24 Wisconsin School of Recognition, honoring dedication to student growth and achievement.
Riverview and Parkside received the award in the High Impact category. This distinction is based on a rigorous set of criteria, including academic performance, measurable progress in student growth or graduation rates, reducing achievement gaps – particularly among students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
“As a building, a lot of work has gone into receiving this recognition, and we are humbled. Our staff has worked extremely hard to make learning accessible for all and seeing that pay dividends is truly inspiring,” said Riverview Elementary School Principal Alex Kitchner. “We would like to say thank you to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, a huge thank you to Riverview families, for their engagement and investment in their children’s education, thank you to our students for working so hard, and another huge thank you to our staff who are very deserving of this recognition.”
Parkside Principal Doug Beattie added, “This recognition reflects the commitment of our entire school community: our dedicated staff, students, and families. This award acknowledges not only academic performance but also our efforts to close achievement gaps and the intentional work we do to support students from all backgrounds. A big thank you to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for this recognition, and even bigger thank you to our staff, students, and families.”
The Wisconsin Schools of Recognition program honors Title I schools that demonstrate success in educating all students, particularly those experiencing poverty. After a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, the DPI resumed the awards for the 2023-24 school year to continue celebrating schools that make a lasting impact.
