Following the first Community Impact Committee (CIC) Meeting in mid-January and the feedback received from district stakeholders, the Wautoma Area School Board passed a motion to approve a Facilities Planning Learning Study for Wautoma High School, Redgranite Elementary School and Parkside School as well as an Educational Adequacy Study for Parkside during their monthly meeting on February 12.

Understanding there are needs at each of the schools and not just Riverview Elementary, District Administrator Jewel Mucklin requested CG Schmidt and Plunkett Raysich Architects, LLP to provide a quote to the Board for facilities studies for the remaining three schools. In the quote provided to Mucklin and the Board, CG Schmidt stated the facilities assessment report will investigate and document the condition of visible elements of the Wautoma High School, Parkside School, and Redgranite Elementary, including structural, doors, floors, walls, ceilings, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, site and exterior drainage, sidewalks and asphalt pavement. Following the study, CG Schmidt will provide a summary of their findings to the Board and provide details for each issue and a cost estimate to address maintenance needs.

Mucklin stated with the community’s input to look at building a possible new elementary closer to Parkside, the Educational Space Adequacy Study for the 30-year-old 4th-8th Grade School will provide a clear understanding of existing and future programmatic needs from drop-off to the last activity in the building.

At this time, the district remains focused on Riverview Elementary as the building’s needs are more immediate, however, the study of the three others schools in the district will allow the Board and administration to prioritize facility and capital projects to determine long-range planning, budgeting, and prioritize what uses Fund 46 and other revenues earmarked for facilities should be completed and in what order.
