Non-perishable food items will be collected at Riverview School from November 11th to December 4th. Grade levels are competing to see which grade can bring in the most food items. Keeping An Open Mind! "The Sandwich Swap" by Queen Rania Al Abdullah is a story about friendship, acceptance, and keeping an open mind. These third grade students learned a lesson and were introduced to a food they had never heard of before, hummus. Keeping with the morale of the story the girls kept an open mind when they tried hummus for the first time.

This student’s exemplary character is demonstrated day in and day out. He truly is the epitome of all of the Wautoma Area School District character traits. He is honest, dependable, trustworthy, and responsible. He is respected by his peers and adults here at Redgranite. He is always considerate of others and he always looks to find the positive in every situation. He is also willing to lend a helping hand to his fellow students and his teachers when needed. He is a true leader in and out of the classroom. Over the years, his determination and commitment to learning has led him to great successes with his academics. With such great character, he certainly has a bright future ahead of him. It is with honor and admiration that I nominate Korban Withall as Redgranite's October Student of the Month.

Third grade students at Redgranite recently read a book titled Third Grade Angels written by Jerry Spinelli. In writing class they learned about the parts of a friendly letter and how to compose a friendly letter. They then wrote a letter to author Jerry Spinelli giving him praise for writing a book filled with surprises that kept them on the edge of their seats. The letters were sent off and the children are patiently awaiting a reply. Pictured above are Ian Moldenhauer, Amelia Meckelberg, and Monica Hansen.

Why Eat School Lunch? School lunch offers students a nutritious menu variety that follows the Dietary Guidelines for Americans which recommend that no more than 30% of calories come from fat and less than 10% from saturated fat. Regulations also establish a standard for school lunches to provide one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories. Students that eat meals served through the National School Lunch Program are more likely to be at a healthy weight. NSLP participants are more likely to consume vegetables, milk, milk products, and meat than those students packing their lunch from home. How Do I Apply For Free Lunch? Do I Need to be Income Qualified? Yes, see income guidelines on our school website under Food Service. Applications are available in any of our school offices. You may also apply online by going to www.wautomasd.org click on Explore> Parents And Students> Infinite Campus Portal. You only have to do one application per family

Students in Mrs. Shepard's 6th grade class are determining when reading is fantastic and what happens when reading goes terribly wrong for them. They were put into small groups and then as a whole group, they made a master list so they can use this to overcome some of the stumbling points of reading and how to focus on what is in their control. Some reasons of why reading is difficult include when they are distracted, when seating is uncomfortable or they are reading a book too hard for them. Some reasons of why reading is not positive include when they get to choose their book, they can reread a book and when they have a personal connection to the text. We are off to a great start this year.

Wautoma Area School District will be Busing on the Lookout (BOTL) this year! When building an army to fight a crime like human trafficking, the bus industry has a key role to fill. Through their sheer numbers, extensive travels, and the nature of their jobs, members of the bus industry—commercial and school—are uniquely positioned to provide an extra set of eyes and ears for law enforcement in recovering victims and arresting traffickers. Our bus drivers are the eyes, and ears of the road, rest stops, sporting events, tourist areas, and other places where trafficking may occur. Human Traffickers use bus terminals and bus stops as recruiting areas when they are looking for vulnerable people. Primary minors, young adults, to exploit, hence the reason why our school district is enforcing education on the 2nd largest crime in our nation! https://youtu.be/xXxBd-UkF_g
